 WNC HRA  MENTORING PROGRAM KICKOFF


 

WNCHRA is excited to kick-off a new mentoring program. WNCHRA Mentoring Program provides support to entry and mid-level Human Resources professionals as they advance in their careers.  In addition, the program provides leadership opportunities to mid-to senior-level HR professionals. The WNCHRA Mentoring Program aims to create a platform to strengthen and support Human Resources professionals in the WNC area.  Whether you are looking to refine, refresh or reinvent your career, the WNCHRA Mentoring Program offers a way forward.  Seasoned professionals can sharpen coaching and feedback skills, while emerging leaders can forge a path to reach their goals.

               
Effective Mentor:

  • Encourage the exploration of ideas and risk taking 
  • Provide feedback as is appropriate
  • Serve as a confidant for work-related issues
  • Help mentee to shift his/her mental context
  • Suggest appropriate skills training
  • Facilitate networking within WNCHRA and other HR network
  • Serve as a source of information and resources

Effective Mentee:

  • Be open to receiving feedback
  • Take responsibility for your own professional growth and development
  • Seek challenging assignments and new responsibilities
  • Initiate meeting appointments with your mentor
  • Keep agreements arranged with your mentor
  • Set and communicate goals

Requirements

Qualifications for Mentor

  • 3+ years in HR or related field
  • Demonstration of career growth through expanded job responsibilities, project management, team leadership, etc.
  • Willingness to coach and support another HR professional
  • 6-month commitment, with one key meeting or activity each month
  • Active member of WNCHRA required

Qualifications for Mentee

  • College student or entry- to mid-level HR professional
  • Willingness to take charge of scheduling meetings and setting goals
  • 6-month commitment, with one key meeting or activity each month
  • Participation in Program Evaluation
  • Active member of WNCHRA required

Timeline and Logistics

  • Application deadline – 10/30/20
  • Applicant matching virtual event – Week of 11/2/20
  • Applicants matched and notified - Week of 11/9/20 
  • WNCHRA Mentoring Program Orientation/Kick-Off – Week of 11/16/20 (evening event)
